I just can't see how it's algorithms.
Big names wanted to cash in and are old blokes now. So better off playing sets and making the money.
Whereas a lot of the tracks in the scene are still bangers and relevent today. Just a shame that those who made them have turned their back.

It's algorithms in the sense that if you're on spotify or anything like that, you're competing against the mainstream/trending/viral/whatev.

Take Soundcloud as an example. They took away the feed that listed everything equally based on date posted, and provided trending/popular/algorithmic feed.
Same happened with YouTube. Homepage used to be subscribed videos, now its recommended based on history or popularity.
Its throttled our genre.

I'm still pretty active with things! Really enjoying making new music, drawing influences from the 90s, 00s and some of the tunes I've been hearing out and about at multi-genre parties. I definitely think there's a future for Happy Hardcore, but maybe as part of a wider underground rave scene more than a scene of it's own.
Would love to be playing out more regularly but averaging 1 or 2 gigs a month and tbh I'm pretty happy with that balance... I need my beauty sleep more these days and I like doing other things like going out trekking out in the countryside and staying in watching YouTube with my cat

I still DJ regularly, 2020 during covid I went down a rabbit hole of D&B and jungle and played in that scene for a few years playing at D&B Classics, Random Concept etc and really enjoyed it, over the last 12 months I've been getting back into next gen hardcore and am back playing this style at hardcore gigs, playing in Holland a few times this year as well as Tomorrow's World.
The UK hardcore scene is deader than dead but there might be some legs in the next gen sound. Look up artists and labels like Wicked XXX, T-Go, Distorted Reality, Genetic Disorder, Wicked Records, Mokum, Arvid, Redlock, Cenobite...that's the future for me.

It's 2026 and I do lurk here from time to time.
I have been DJing on and off for 20 years. I started with getting involved with Hardcore for 3 years. I really didn't like how the UK Hardcore scene was heading with the sound as in lack of variety and too much cheese.
I have listened to some tracks today and they seriously aren't my style. I don't like the same generic hardstyle leads over and over and how short the tracks are. What the hell is up with the short intros and outros for non existent lazy mixing? That's my constructive criticism.
I noticed Sam Laxton's Higher on his facebook and I am blown away. Fantastic mid 2000's inspired track with that amazing euphoric feeling.
I was very active in the IRC chatroom back in the day. I do lurk the Discord as well.
A number of chatters back in the day have come and gone but what is new from me?
Back in 2009, I switched to mixing Trance and I have never looked back. I think this was only going to be a matter of time before this happened. I discovered trance music before getting in to UK Hardcore. The variety, feeling, euphoria and the emotion of trance music is why I have stuck to the genre.
I still have my 450 Hardcore vinyl from back in the day but my trance collection has grown in the last few years since 2020.
I have been messing around with production for a few years now. I did a UK Hardcore remix of a track that no one has done except me and now I am working on potentially doing a Trance Remix.
I have struggled time and time again with trying to write melodies until not long ago I did come up with a trance melody that sounded beautiful to my ears and has potential.
So one day, I am hoping to upload some samples onto soundcloud. I already have some ideas but the challenge is trying to execute something into a project.
I have some surprises if they do get uploaded - one track I have the original FL Studio project file and the artist was someone who was active here on this website 20 years ago.
I do have trance mixes and I will be working on doing more. Interesting times ahead.
