pretty much check out also the Tracks, DJ Mixes & Release Announcements thread to also get some legally freebie links. as far as purchasing, for the best deals look for a whole album set of unmixed tracks on imodownload.com, junodownload.com, and trackitdown.net you'll pretty much be getting each track for $1

Thank you latininxtc.
Another user looking for legit tracks here and you have shown me the way. I've been meaning to start looking for music on a serious note and only now got around to it. To my luck, this topic was one of the first I saw.
Thank you again.

As far as artists go, just listen to samples and figure out which producers/labels/tunes you prefer, there's no finite answer :p
I'd say get some equipment when you feel like it. Software is a good way to get started, but equipment is more fun ;)

in order for you to decide what equipment you should get, you need to decide whether what media you really want to mix:
vinyl, cds or mp3s/wav
after you determine that, then it makes it a little easier on deciding what equipment you should get. but getting software 1st would be good, they offer free trial software on serato not sure bout torq or traktor or the other 1s
and as far as artists don't limit yourself with a select few artists focus on the style of hardcore that you enjoy a lot and just select artists from that 1 particular genre
