I love how people and cities obsess over having the tallest building. Height is irrelevant... what matters - to me anyway - is that the building is safe for it's occupants and the environment, efficient at it's purpose, constructed to last, and aesthetically pleasing.

Probably the massive waste of money and time called Dubai.

Ah, late them have their 15 minutes. Besides, this isn't just any skyscraper. It's twice the height of the Empire State. That's just feckin' amazing. As long as it stops there, cos' I heard plans of a 1km high one coming.

I think wasting so much time on a big skyscraper is RETARDED. For a lack of better word for how I feel.

How is THAT safe?

I can't wait for a fire to be on the 5th floor that is blazes through the entire building, showing once the elevators shut off the entire place is just a tall box death trap.

I agree with an above statement. Keep building shorter, safer, more efficient, and you'll get more work done in that building then a building nine hundred times taller. I hate to bring it up, but the World Trade Centers. I have a general dislike of sky scrapers. One simple component fails, and people are stranded hundreds of feet in the air, breaking thousands of feet. How do you escape from that?

Shorter, efficient, well balanced thought out layouts, and simple aesthetics = Infinitely better then Skyscrapers, in MY opinion.

It's safe. It's physically made to alter itself to prevent from crashing down when disasters hit. ... if that's what we were talking about.

Plus, it's pretty much materialistic. It's what humans do. There's never really a reason for the crap we come up with. It just happens... so really the whole "waste of time blah blah" is pointless/hypocritical. We all do it.

Seems like the human race should be preoccupied with itself, in regards to our current standing and all. :P Unless you mean every single human... that's a different ballgame.
