This was kind of a spur-of-the-moment thing and I thought it could be some good PS practice (I'm atrocious at graphic design). I was wondering if anyone here good with Photoshop could give me some advice? My main problem so far is that everything looks so crunchy; I was aiming for the "pixel perfect" look but I'm either doing it wrong or it's backfiring on me. I also think the colors are clashing badly in areas.

Though I am not exactly good with all this stuff I think it's worth mentioning that I really like the font.

Which one? Or do you mean all?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Handel_Gothic http://www.dafont.com/planet.font The other is basically what Arial looks like under serious hinting and anti-aliasing.

The only reason I copied off here in regards to the forum section is because A: I wanted a better idea of how it would look and B: I'm lazy. It won't be like that in the end though (if there ever even is an end... oh wait, there will be. Curse you entropy, curse yooooouuuu!). :P

Here are a few things...
The color scheme doesn't really match for me, to bright...green and blue?
Fix you anti aliasing on a lot of your edges and text..
What is the bar on the top right? That could be a pretty sweet nav bar thing, like mail, friends...ect..
From what it looks like now, it looks more like a mobile phone forum..(like for a phone browser) or like a old bbs or web 1.0 site, it needs to look more modern, more rounded edges, shadows.
What are the line & arrows? New post indicators?
What is th empty box thing at the bottom?
What is the site going to be for?
Tell me them and i could tell you a lil more..
This is all meant in a constructive criticism, dont take it in a wrong way :b

I was wanting to get some good contrasting colors (greys, and then green and blue).

As for the edges, I'm not entirely sure how to. I was intending for the background objects to look similar to this (although not indented). See how "pixel perfect" it is, but smooth instead of crunchy looking?

Yes, it was going to be a navigation bar.

Still working on that.

I was originally thinking they could be that. Although now I'm leaning more towards the idea of when you roll over a certain category (such as "Off-Topic Chat") the arrows around that category would turn green. If you moved the cursor over the link for a subforum (or its corresponding folder icon), the folder icon would turn green too.

That's going to be forum information section. I haven't gotten to that part yet.

Hey man, i used to own my own web design company when i was 16 till i sold it. So i have some kind of knowledge in this area :-P
But basically, it is a really nice design! good contrasting colours. The only thing i think you couild improve is do a bit more with the background, shove a gradient over it, or paintbrush something in, never leave a big space a plane colour! that tends to be my rule! :-P

You mean that empty space at the bottom? That's just extra space I ended up with after I got a general idea of the layout.

The background is a gradient. I guess I made it too subtle?
