hmm ok . maybe im still a little undecided then . im not interested in online play, not too bothered if one has a little bit better graphics than the other.
so maybe if they are both equal in reliability then i think i will just see what better deal i can get

Standard buys will get you the same exact same things, except you'll be getting the Microsoft headset for the 360 (which you're not worried about online, so not that useful). And for the PS3 everything that's already built in (BluRay/Wirless) over the 360.
I have no idea where the hell you guys would go to buy this stuff in the UK, but "deals" would be bundles that would come with games. Other than that they're in the same exact ball park in prices and what you get, though again I say get the PS3. Less and less are actual exclusives anymore, with a lot of things that were exclusives on 360 coming onto PS3.
Then again almost all of the games on the 360 come out for Windows respectively, and computer > consoles. That's just a bias though ;]

I thought I'd never play online, but trust me it's much much better. Playing against genuine people is always much more fun. GTA 4 online is really fun. And yes like 'TheOneAndOnly' said don't be fooled by the M$ fanboys claiming Live is 100x better. PSN did have problems when it first came out but it's been great ever since. Also HOME is free of charge for the PS3 and it's usually a good way to kill some hours/meet new people.
I've had a launch day PS3 but that broke (that problem now fixed IIRC) after about 2 years. They sent me another PS3 when I had no warranty or insurance free of charge. So that saved me buying a new one.
As for games, xbox lovers claim they have the greatest exclusives but the majority of them are shit seriously. All PS3 exclusives have an average rating of 85% and 360's are averagely rated 57%.
As for graphics, some games look better for 360 but they're usually for both systems. PS3 exclusives are stunningly good MGS4 for example.
Failure rate for 360 = 56.4%
Failure rate for PS3 = 2%
(And yes, I own both consoles)

This is a good post as i'm in the exact same situation as you. Do i go PS3 or xbox? So this has helped me a lot too. Have heard bad things about xbox breaking although mainly the earlier ones though. My eldest son is on his 3rd & my brother in law is on his 4th. My brother in law bought an elite & has had know probs with that so far.
I've heard that Game are selling second hand consoles (Refurbished) & offer the same guarantee as a new one. Good idea as they're cheaper to buy. Has anybody on here bought a second hand one?

Me and it broke. :P Then I got a replacement and it broke within a week but the 3rd one is going strong heh.
I would have got a PS3 but at the time they where damn expensive and didn't have **** all RPG's. Still dont think they have many RPG's either... I'm surprised because the PS2 was THE console to have for them. I have a UK and US PS2. :P
TBH few of my mates have PS3's but I dont think I'm missing out on anything. More games I like on the XBox but I think that's down to my taste in games. I don't have time to feck about playing games online either. Only time I bother with that is to whip my mate on Age of Empires.
Maybe I'm old fasioned but I prefer playing my mates multi player split screen. Better to have some mates over and do that. Still got the old 64 hooked up for Goldeneye, Perfect Dark etc. 8=)

I avoided this problem by getting all the exclusives for 360 on the PC, and still keep my PS3. Meaning games like Mass Effect 2 (which I love).

I have a PS3 and don't really care about online either. PS3s are only like $300 now and I like how they can sync to your computer and you can watch or play anything on them (with PS3 Media Server).
I would say that the PS3 has less things you'll have to spend extra on, it only uses general ports so you don't have to buy a PS3 specific power supply or PS3 specific hard drive (it uses laptop harddrives which are much less expensive than 360 harddrives (ie. 120gb 360 harddrive $150, 120gb laptop harddrive $40)) so it'll save you money in the long run.
Also, if you you're a PC gamer or have a good PC then you should get a PS3 as most games that come out on 360 get ported to PC and vise-versa.

Why buy a new console? You could use that money for a good cause like helpping to rebuild the mission in Hati, or help the starving children in Africa.

I got my ps3 about 6 months ago but at the time my mate told me the 360 is cheaper get it,but theres no chance i geting a 360 over a ps3 cheaper r not,as i,m a ps man through and through and i don,t like the look of the xbox r there controllers
