is that cheap? no - because in those areas the people make about $100 a year. they have riots because petrol prices was going to jump from 5c to 7c
the only time it would really matter is if you are in that country - and getting paid from another country with a different exchange rate - and at that countrys COL.
i think petrol up here in the lakes is around about 111p? im not sure, we get a car at the end of this month though lol
def true. the price always depends on cost of living, and even the demographics and the economy of certain areas of one's city. but pretty much if it goes up in 1 city, it goes up everywhere. and yea i don't have a car so i take the city bus. not the most reliable sometimes but it gets the job done.

Why do you wear a suit at work? You a sales man or something? Anyway people that wear "better" clothes, usually change the work clothes at the office here. But personally 30 min ride would be a bit too much for me. Currently for me its 2,5 km (10 minutes). 5 km would be the absolute top id be arsed to cycle to work every day. But i bought my house specifically from the distance id be willing to cycle. And IMHO people these days don't really think enough the importance of living close to work. Maybe its because work isn't so "stable" as it used to be.

To get to college it takes about an hour and a half on the bus, or 40 minuites in the car, but if its going to cost me like 20 or so a day, its stupid!
btw, it takes 2-3 hours to bike to college, tried it before ;-)
20gbp a day, whats that like in dollars?
because it sounds ridiculous!
and Rayovac, that was bad ass!
30.86 (CAD)
dang, I would just take the bus and save the petrol for the weekend

if you have a family of even 3, owning a car is cheeper than taking public transport.
whispering, in england those of us with kids "living close to work" can be far too expensive especially if you work in the city, many people are pushed out into the country and have to travel - so the importance factor changes a bit - its more important to be able to work and afford to actually have a roof over your head..:P
im about 10km up and down hill's and fells to get to my work from where i live - i would be so much fitter if i cycled - though i dont think my wife and kid would think much of me towing them on a rickshaw ;)

Nah, thats just life in todays world. Its immensely stupid, but its just they way things are. 80 years ago there lived more people in my city center as there live today, despite the fact that theres probably 10 times more people living here today. When people didn't have the means for transport, companies built whole suburbs for their workers. They built their factories like they built banks. They were supposed to look solid, founded on rock. Today? a single decision and that factory is moved 3000 km south.
