Steven King stories are always silly and far fetched though don't you think? Used to enjoy Richard Laymen's books many years ago when i was a young teenage, would never read that kind of thing now! (not that i read anything)

I think Christine is pretty good to be honest (I assume you're talking about Stephen King). Have you read it?

of course his books are a little silly & far fetched...I still find them fun & funny to read.

my older sister calls her husbands car christine, she's convinced the car hates here as it will give her difficulty starting it but starts right up everytime for him...

my fear of clowns stems from it =P

A friend once forced me into reading a Dean Koontz novel. Velocity. No offence to anyone that likes his books, and maybe this was just a bad example of his work, but fcuk me, it was so dull and clichd it was unreal. I got 200 pages in, and it was clear it wasn't going to improve, so I returned to my friend, along with a meaty slap to the face.

I finished reading a crime novel on the way to work this morning. A booked called American Tabloid, by James Ellroy. It's the first book of his I've read, and my God, what a book. Just ordered two more of his off of Amazon today. Here's a a review from an Amazon user. It's the first one I came to, but looking at the rest, they're all equally, if not more, full of praise:

"If you have any interest at all in crime writing or the America of the 1950's and 60's you have to read this book. I read the Black Dahlia several years ago and enjoyed it, but it was, in my opinion, nothing compared to this. A superbly dark, shocking, intriguing novel. The manner in which the author binds together real historical characters with fictional ones, real documented events with invented, and real relationships and conversations with new is truly stunning"

The book spans five years, from 58-63. The Kennedy Brothers (JFK and Co.) are central figures, and the book charts the run up to his election, through his short administration, and on to his assassination. It is a staggeringly well crafted story, with brutal, violent, intelligent and original characters. The Mafia feature heavily, as well as corrupt CIA and FBI agents (some real people, others fictionalised). If anyone lives in London and wants to borrow it from me, I work near Old Street/Moorgate - feel free to pick it up :-)

Oh, here's a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Tabloid

I know exactly what you mean. Have you read a series called the Belgariad? It's fantasy epic and very good. Narnia is also a good series.

'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe' is only the second of the seven 'Chronicles of Narnia'.

If you decide to read them start with the first one 'The Magician's Nephew' and carry on from there.

Christine is the one about the bomb car that repairs itself isnt it?

The weirdest book of his I have read would be dreamcatcher or tommyknockers. Havn't read heaps though.
